Join the Laser Endodontic Revolution: A Look at the Waterlase iPlus (Er,Cr:YSGG) Laser

Description:

Lasers have been used in dentistry for the last four decades, however, just recently they have increased their presence and acceptance in endodontics. This seminar will discuss the rationale for using the Er,Cr:YSGG laser in every-day root canal treatment. Laser photoacoustics and its “enhanced irrigation” effect on debridement and disinfection of the root canal system will be discussed and demonstrated in detail. The instructor will demonstrate the laser on extracted teeth to visualize the advantages of laser assisted irrigation to locate and negotiate canals. Expanded soft tissue functions including gingivectomy, sulcular flaps and incisions will also be demonstrated on pig jaws. The seminar will highlight basic laser safety and physics for general and endodontic use.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to describe proper use of lasers in dentistry and endodontics in a safe and effective manner.

2. Participants will be able to perform laser assisted root canal treatment in a safe and efficient manner overcoming several challenges inherent to root canal treatment.

3. Participants will be able to perform basic soft tissue procedures such as gingivectomy, treatment of sinus tracts, and perio-endo bony defects.
